Reception with Honored Guest Mary Thomas, Esq.

Mr. Vinson Palathingal will be hosting a reception for Florida’s Second Congressional District candidate, Lathika Mary Thomas.

Mary Thomas is a first generation American and a strong conservative Republican. She is an active member of the Federalist Society of conservative attorneys, and will be challenging Congresswoman Gwen Graham for her seat in the Second Congressional District. If elected, Thomas would make history as the first Indian-Malayalee American woman elected to Congress.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina to immigrant parents, Thomas was raised in a humble yet successful family. Her parents (both from Kerala, India) migrated to the United States in search of the American dream. They run a family medical practice and a successful biotechnology firm. Thomas graduated from Florida State College of Law and holds a Masters degree from the University of Miami. She attended University of South Florida for her Bachelors degree.

Since January 2011, Thomas has served in Governor Rick Scott’s Administration. As the General Counsel at the Department of Elder Affair, Thomas supervises a budget of $900 million. During the same time, Thomas has also showed tremendous dedication to improve conditions or eradicate any issues/challenges that citizens, business and military establishments might face in her district. Having further experience as serving as the Governor’s representative in negotiations regarding Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill; developing strategies to protect the Apalachicola Bay from Georgia’s unchecked consumption of water, strategies that ultimately resulted in the filing of a lawsuit against Georgia in the U.S. Supreme Court; and helping to solve military base encroachment issues around Panhandle’s military installations.

Thomas is a member of the Gulf Winds Track and Triathlon Clubs. She has participated in over 50 road races/triathlons across the Second District. During one of these races, held in Mexico Beach, her husband John proposed to her. Thomas is a loving mother to her son Luke, and together the family attends the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Tallahassee.

This is the first time a person this close to our roots is at the doorstep of US Congress and she needs our support. She represent our children who will move this nation forward, a nation that we adopted as ours. Let’s get involved and help her accomplish this major feat on behalf of us, for our children and for this wonderful nation that we all call home. Let’s have our voice in the US House of Representatives through someone who definitely know us in and out.
